Installation Recommendations

Flashing and Weep Ropes Shall be Installed Around Entire Concrete Foundation, Over Lentils at Masonry Openings & Across Bond Beams.

White Portland Shall be Used for All Limestone Mortar.  Anywhere Brick Mortar Meets Limestone Install Flashing With Weep Ropes to Prevent Bleeding of Colored Mortar Thru Stone.

*****ALL JOINTS SHALL BE 3/8” THICK. (VERTICAL & HORIZONTAL)*****

*****ALLOW MINIMUM 3/4” AIR GAP BETWEEN ALL STONE & BLOCK.*****

Brush All Joints & Stone for Clean Installation, Brick Included.  No Excess Mortar Shall Be Left on Stone or Brick at the End of Each Day.  Stubborn Debris on Limestone Shall be Hand Sanded with 80 Grit Abrasive Sandpaper.

No Limestone Should be in Direct Contact with Concrete.  This Can Cause Efflorescence and/or Alkali Staining.  We strongly Recommend Applying Concrete Sealer Prior to Limestone Installation.

An Independent Cleaning Contractor Should be Hired to Hand Brush All Stone and Brick with Water Only.  Absolutely No Acid of Any Concentration Anywhere on or Near the front façade.  Even Mild Detergents have been known to Discolor the Stone.

We Recommend a Signed Contract with the Cleaning Contractor to Guarantee the Cleaning Process and the Solutions Used in the Process.

We Do Not Recommend the Sealing of Indiana Limestone.  The Limestone Should Breathe Allowing Any Moisture in the Wall Cavity to Evaporate.  Sealing of Indiana Limestone May Result in Discoloration of the Stone.

There are Many Schools of Thought on the Cleaning & Sealing of Natural Stone and in Particular, Indiana Limestone. We have Chosen to Support the Recommendations of the Indiana Limestone Institute (www.ilia.com).

Failure to adhere to these recommendations can make it impossible for us to assist you at no charge should you develop problems with the Limestone once it has been installed.
